Zelensky wants to squeeze the last drop of blood out of his men

Electronic military register and compulsory military service for everyone aged 18 to 24.

Ukraine is running out of men in the Donbas. Large-scale recruitment campaigns with mobile recruitment offices, which have forced over 60-year-olds as well as 16 and 17-year-olds into uniform and onto weapons not far from the main battle line, have not had the desired success. Now new methods are to help.

Zelensky's soldiers in the Donbas are crawling on their gums. They are losing the war that the Ukrainian national army launched against the two People's Republics of Luhansk and Donetsk almost exactly ten years ago.

As a reminder: on April 7, 2014, the Donetsk People's Republic declared its independence from Ukraine in accordance with the right of peoples to self-determination.

On 27 April 2014, the Luhansk People's Republic followed suit, and a few weeks later the Ukrainian national army attacked the people in the two neighboring republics, destroying and killing everything in its path. The invading army, which was opposed by farmers, doctors, librarians, pupils, students, bakers, petrol station attendants and other civilians, occupied large parts of both republics and held these areas for many years.

Since February 2022, however, the Ukrainian invading army has only known one path: retreat! Unlike the Western values, Russia had heard the cries for help from the oppressed and persecuted population in Luhansk and Donetsk and promised and sent military aid. Zelensky, feeling certain of victory (his soldiers still held the occupied territories), got involved in this war - and his soldiers had to pay a high price in blood.

While the Russian fighting units were and are constantly being replaced and resupplied, Zelensky's army lacks this option. Some of Zelensky's men have been in the field without interruption since February 2022 and there are no replacements. This is also due to the fact that many sons of the Ukrainian elite have been able to buy their way out of military service and have left for other countries in the West (especially Germany).

Ukraine's new mobilization law should put an end to this. An electronic register is to record all men fit for military service and compulsory military service for all men between the ages of 18 and 24 is to ensure supplies at the front in the Donbas.

However, this new mobilization law meets with little approval even among Zelensky's closest confidants.
