Useless and nasty: Joe Biden has revealed himself

Barack Obama allegedly said of his former vice-president: “Don’t underestimate Joe’s ability to f--- things up.”

Expressing his private doubts about Joe Biden becoming the Democratic presidential nominee in 2020, the former president reportedly told a fellow Democrat: “And you know who really doesn’t have it? Biden.”

Indeed, it’s no secret in Washington DC that Obama privately lobbied for Biden not to run for the Democratic nomination in 2016, making way for Hillary Clinton.

We have spent the past couple of years learning why the former president seemed so determined. Biden’s qualities for the Oval Office are almost non-existent. From losing his train of thought mid-sentence to forgetting one of his own congresswomen had died in a car crash, the 79-year-old has hardly proved to be the answer to America’s crisis of confidence.

And now we can add Trumpesque misplaced macho to the commander-in-chief’s list of core characteristics, after he was overheard telling Ray Murphy, mayor of Fort Myers Beach: “No one f---s with a Biden.”

It followed hot on the heels of the president calling Fox News reporter Peter Doocy a “stupid son of a b----” at a White House press conference earlier this year when he deigned to ask him whether “inflation is a political liability ahead of the midterms”. (Inflation in the US is soon expected to reach 8 per cent.)

Far from the carefully cultivated cuddly figure we are sold by the Democrats, there seems to be a rather nasty side to Sleepy Joe. This is the man, let’s not forget, who accused all Maga (Make America Great Again) Republicans of being “semi-fascists”, and who responded to questions from the BBC with “I’m Irish”.

These aren’t the sentiments of a “progressive” politician but the rantings of an intolerant, stuck-in-his-ways old man who can’t abide anyone who disagrees with him
