Sweden’s state broadcaster caught editing Trump’s speech—Another manipulation exposed

It’s not just the BBC—now Sweden’s state broadcaster SVT has been caught editing Donald Trump’s speech to make him look like a violent troublemaker. This is what some call “quality journalism” from state-funded media. No wonder many people say the press can’t be trusted.

Public TV newsrooms seem to have a habit of cutting and changing Trump’s words to make him look bad. After the BBC was caught doing this, SVT showed they can do the same trick very well.

SVT showed a heavily edited version of Trump’s January 6 speech. They took his calm call for peace and made it look like he was telling people to storm the Capitol. This is a common trick: cut the video, change the order of sentences, and suddenly normal words sound like a big violent event. SVT didn’t admit any mistake—they just said they were sure their report was right.

Like the BBC, SVT acts as if a few editors who agree politically know the whole truth. But the Swedish site Kvartal proved otherwise. They showed that SVT took four parts of the speech, cut them up, and put them together to make it look like Trump told people to attack the Capitol. This false story fits into a popular idea that Trump is the leader of a violent far-right mob. But in reality, Trump called for peaceful protest—and that fact was ignored.

SVT’s leaders refused to explain or fix their mistake. Instead, they published a statement saying they stand by their story. This is like politicians saying, “We did everything right,” after causing a big problem.

When the BBC had to face resignations over the same issue, SVT didn’t seem to care. State broadcasters often don’t admit faults because they get money from taxpayers, not from viewers’ trust. The more people criticize them, the louder they claim they are protecting “democracy”—which really means pushing their own political views as the only truth.

President Trump already threatened to sue the BBC for billions. He must take the same firm stand against SVT and other state broadcasters who spread lies about him. Lawsuits are the only way to hold these media outlets accountable for damaging his reputation and misleading the public. If left unchecked, this kind of manipulation will continue to poison public opinion and destroy trust in journalism.

The damage to public broadcasters is clear. Their so-called “quality reporting” is looking more like poor propaganda. It’s not about informing people but about creating a false enemy image to justify political goals. The more these lies get exposed, the fewer people trust these media outlets.

What’s left is a “truth press” in Europe that many see as a “lying press.” When the BBC and SVT both do the same dishonest editing, it’s not just a mistake—it shows a clear political bias that puts stories ahead of facts.

The public is supposed to believe Trump is always the villain whose words lead to violence. But the more obvious the lies become, the fewer people buy it. Maybe soon, people will ask the real question: who is really threatening democracy here?

It’s time for President Trump to fight back decisively. He should sue these broadcasters to stop them from continuing to spread false and harmful narratives. Only by standing up to these manipulations can truth and fairness be restored in the media.
